Neil Prakash Bhalerao, MD is a board-certified internal medicine physician, hospitalist, and healthcare leader based in San Francisco. He currently serves as Medical Director and Physician Advisor at California Pacific Medical Center (CPMC) – Davies Campus, working within Sutter Health and Pacific Inpatient Medical Group. Known for his data-driven leadership style and collaborative approach, Dr. Bhalerao focuses on optimizing hospital operations while fostering a culture of clinical excellence, care team collaboration, and accountability. Dr. Bhalerao’s passion for hospital medicine was shaped during his residency at John H. Stroger Hospital of Cook County, where he later served as Chief Resident. His leadership during training was recognized with the prestigious American College of Physicians Herbert S. Waxman Chief Resident Teaching Scholarship. He earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from Ross University School of Medicine and holds dual undergraduate degrees in Molecular and Cell Biology and Business Administration from University of California, Berkeley—a foundation that uniquely positions him at the intersection of frontier medicine and operational execution. As Medical Director at CPMC–Davies, Dr. Bhalerao oversees campus operations, physician recruitment, staffing strategy, and stakeholder engagement. He partners closely with executive leadership, nursing, case management, and finance teams to improve key performance metrics such as length of stay, discharge efficiency, readmissions, and revenue cycle performance. He regularly reports campus-level data to executive teams, leads performance evaluations, and develops continuing medical education initiatives to elevate physician practice standards. In his role within Internal Physician Advisor Services (IPAS), Dr. Bhalerao collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to ensure appropriate utilization management and seamless care progression. He responds to InterQual escalations, performs peer to peers for payor denials, audits multidisciplinary rounds and drives quality improvement initiatives to continue to optimize hospital throughput. He also serves on sepsis, hyperglycemia, quality, and utilization management committees, reinforcing his commitment to systems-based practice improvement. As a practicing hospitalist since 2017, Dr. Bhalerao rotates through admitting, rounding, and overnight shifts, maintaining a strong clinical presence while leading administratively. He is the founder and editor-in-chief of a bi-monthly hospitalist newsletter dedicated to standardizing evidence-based clinical practice across his physician group. Board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, Dr. Bhalerao is an active member of the Society of Hospital Medicine and the American College of Physicians. His scholarly work includes peer-reviewed publications in Endocrine Practice and the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine.
