The Most Important Software Nobody's Built Yet

We're building the nerve net for healthcare — distributed, responsive, always on.

KJ with Jelly Fish

For centuries, healthcare has been organized like a centralized brain: scarce experts at the top, everyone else waiting in line for signals to pass through. But jellyfish survived half a billion years with no brain at all, only a nerve net, a distributed system that senses the environment and responds in real time. Lotus is building that nerve net for healthcare, where intelligence is distributed, responsive, always on, and available wherever the signal appears.

There are over 8 billion people on this planet. Most of them can't see a good doctor.

Not because doctors don't exist. Not because medicine hasn't advanced. But because the system that's supposed to connect people to care is fundamentally and structurally broken.

In the U.S., the average primary care visit lasts 15 minutes. You wait months to get it. You pay $300 for the "privilege." And if you don't speak English fluently, like my parents, who immigrated from Punjab, you're navigating that broken system through a child translator. I was that kid. Sitting in exam rooms at 8 years old, trying to explain my mom's symptoms to a doctor who didn't have time to listen anyway.

That experience never left me. It's why I'm building Lotus AI.

What We're Actually Doing

Lotus is the world's first AI doctor. Free, 24/7, in 50+ languages. Not a chatbot that tells you to "see a doctor." An actual clinical system that takes your symptoms, reasons through differential diagnoses, generates a care plan, drafts prescriptions, and then escalates to board-certified physicians from institutions like Stanford, Harvard, and UCSF.

We raised $41M from CRV, Kleiner Perkins, and others who understand that this isn't an incremental improvement. It's a new paradigm for how healthcare gets delivered.

The Hard Problem

The core technical challenge at Lotus isn't building another LLM wrapper. It's building an AI system that can reason clinically, the way the best doctors do. A great diagnostician doesn't just pattern-match symptoms to diseases. They hold competing hypotheses simultaneously, weigh probabilistic evidence, ask the right next question, and know when they're uncertain. They reason under ambiguity with lives on the line.

We're building that. From the ground up.

This means working at the intersection of large language models, structured clinical knowledge, Bayesian reasoning, and real-time human-AI collaboration, all while maintaining the safety bar that medicine demands. There is no existing playbook for this. The research is ours to write.

If you've ever wanted to work on an AI problem where getting it right actually matters, where your model's output isn't an ad ranking or a recommendation, but a diagnosis that changes someone's life, this is it.

Why Now

Two things changed. First, foundation models got good enough to reason over complex, unstructured medical information. Second, the healthcare system got so expensive and so inaccessible that the status quo became indefensible. 40% of Americans skip or delay care because of cost. Globally, half the world has no access to essential health services.

This is not a problem we can create more doctors to solve. There aren't enough. The math doesn't work. The only way to give 8 billion people access to great primary care is to build it.

Who We Are

We're a small team in San Francisco. Engineers, researchers, and clinicians who believe the biggest impact you can have with a career in technology is making sure no one dies from a treatable condition because they couldn't afford to see a doctor or couldn't find one who spoke their language.

We're not building for the Silicon Valley wellness crowd. We're building for the single mom in rural Texas, the factory worker in Ohio, my parents 25 years ago.

Come Build With Us

If you're an exceptional engineer, researcher, or builder, and you've been looking for something worth pouring yourself into, we'd love to talk.

We don't care where you went to school. We care about what you can build, how you think, and whether this mission keeps you up at night the way it keeps us up.

The best work of your career is waiting. Let's go.
